My life, My memory, My dream

It is one of those moody nights again, where I'm checking in here to write a #moodpost. Can't believe it's already more than a month since we last talked. I've imagined a hundred, perhaps a thousand times on how we would eventually lost in touch, however this is not something I would expect - cold turkey. It was an ordinary day, and it only took a few lines to stop all the communication we had before.

It takes only days to develop a bad habit, however a much longer time to break that off. Seeing each other for 5 times a week, and daily texts for the past one year is like a bad habit for me. No matter whether it shines or rains, I would always turn to you. Only after you left,  I realize I've been relying on you that much. I knew I shouldn't have depended on someone impermanent in my life. Knowing that you will leave someday but somehow didn't stopped myself from doing so.

When it first happened, I was disappointed in you. However, later I learned that feelings of disappointment stem from having expectations of another person that go unfulfilled. So, it could have been me. I shouldn't have thought we were different, shouldn't have expected otherwise. Maybe we were never on the same page on how bonding works.

Perhaps the days were so fine, and you provided such comfort that I just let myself being taken care of. Perhaps the memories were so wonderful that it's hard to let them go, and to even think of them to be happening again would be too wishful. Perhaps, just perhaps one day all these will past.

When I was younger, I imagined that 2020 is a year where cars will fly, domestic maids are replaced by AIs. There would be UFOs, and people might actually travel to the moon. That's what the teachers taught us to imagine when we were to write an essay on "Vision 2020".

Nothing of the above turned out to be true, instead we were slapped by Covid-19 pandemic. A real tight slap in our faces and suddenly everything comes to a halt. Now that the most anticipated year has arrived, I'm just another year older - waiting for miracles to happen, dreams to be realized. While the whole nation is slowing down our paces to fight the virus, trying to flatten the curve, here I found some free time to write.

2019 had been a roller-coaster ride. Ups, downs and ended quickly like a flash. Had a few trips with family and friends, looked into a different side of the world  - spent quality time and took time to rest and recharged. Bonded well with my adventurous bunch and took up hiking as weekend activity. As much as I hate hiking, I love spending time with these people as they always give me the most positive vibes and telling me nothing is really impossible. I've come to like working out sessions and feeling the endorphins release gives me much satisfaction. Went for diving again after 6 years, reunited with long-time friends are all sweet encounters.

Of course, life is not always beautiful. Work had been a pain this year. Too much of politics, and too much of favoritism. Waking up to work daily became a hateful routine, however things were made easier with my housemates around. Daily cooking session became the only thing I looked forward to on working days. I guess it's really time to leave Temerloh. Everything has come to a plateau and there's not much job satisfaction these days.

Opened up my heart and believed in something again only to be brought down to disappointment. I've read before somewhere that we should indulge and embrace our feelings for it says if we fully experience those feelings then detachment is possible. I'm someone who doesn't like parting with a memory in my life, but sometimes holding makes the heart heavy.

2020, you've been quite harsh as you came along. However, I'm ready for all you have in store. Bring it on!

I am really bad at farewells. Although I went through this for multiple times, yet I never learn how to detach. Knowing things are impermanent, I still cling onto things / people / moments that won't last.

"The two hardest things to say in life is hello for the first time and goodbye for the last." - Moira Rogers.
I remember the first day when you came into office, and back in my head I thought "What an arrogant guy". Never I thought you will become my housemate and turned out to be the closest person to me here.

After two years of the same routine of going work, off work, lunch and cooking dinners together - it's time for you to leave. I never knew the true meaning of housemates, not until you and boo moved in and there we started eating in instead of searching for outside food. How time flies, it felt just like yesterday when you first moved in. Two years, the changes seems insignificant but you've always tried to show me the positive side of yours, even though you might not be feeling it. Vice versa, I hope I made a positive impact in this short chapter of your life too.

Like you said, all good things must come to an end. You've once told me that you will always be grateful for me no matter at which corner of the world we are at in the future, and wants me to know that you will never rub away this piece of memory of us.

My dramatic housemates, my strength pillars

Omg Omg Omg

Piggg, thank you for the
- 100 home cooked meals
- 150 walks back home together
- 6 months of night shift company, where you made dinner and accompanied me on the walk back during midnight

"It's sad, but sometimes moving on with the rest of your life, starts with goodbye." - Carrie Underwood.
I'm really glad one of us is actually leaving this place for a better good.
And, if we are to meet again someday, I wish for it to be a sunny day.

This is me checking in on one of those rare nights, not sleeping and typing away my thoughts. I once used to write so much, pouring out all my feelings / thoughts into comprehensible words so that one day when I come back to this little hideout of mine - I know exactly what I had been through. Writing during midnight calms me, and if not straighten out my messy thoughts.

Life's not always sunshine and rainbows, I know. But what I do not know is how to weather the storm before rainbows appear. People always say, if life throws lemons at you, you make lemon juice. But exactly how easy it is to make lemon juice? What’s the perfect recipe to make it less sour and bearable and if can a little bit sweeter? Always easier said than done, no?

Everytime when we think we have stopped believing, and are done with broken hearts and disappointments - and again, we let ourselves down. To always love, and in hopes of being loved, only to be shown that all these are wishful thinking, too-beautiful dreams that we are reluctant to wake up from.

But isn’t this life? To be always caught up in a cycle of healing and breaking, falling and standing up tall again. It’s a journey of good and bad times, happy and sad days. For there’s no rain, the sun won’t shine. Till’ then I’ll be mending my broken heart until the next right one comes along.

Time again, waits for no one.
Can't believe that I only wrote a single post for year 2016.

I've always like to pen down my thoughts and experiences so that I can always read them again and oftenly I have a different feeling / opinion from what I've felt previously.

Though' I didn't manage to write down everything, but last year indeed was a fulfilling and enjoyable ride. I was grateful to be blessed with all the good and beautiful things, with all my loved ones around.

If I were to mention one sad moment - that is the passing of grandma. Her passing was the lost of the entire family. The pain of losing her was greatly felt by my mum, who fell sick and cried for days. The last time I lost someone as close was almost 13 years ago, when grandpa left us suddenly, just 2 weeks before Chinese New Year. Through them, I learnt bout' family and unity. And thanks to them I'm sharing a strong bond with my cousins. I guess grandparents have done all they can for us, and lived most of their lives. Grandma would have met grandpa by now - and they are prolly' looking at us, making sure all of us are fine.

P/s: Maybe I should make "updating my blog weekly" one of my resolution for Year 2017 😛

to leave
to grow up on my own
to learn about being independent.

That was my thoughts one and a half year ago.

I do not know anything about moving out, because this is my first time. But,  it proved that this is the perfect distance to move out. Enough to gain independence and freedom, and sufficient to run back home crying if I miss home too much. It is only a 2 and a half hours drive (oops, sometimes I only need an hour and a half)

While I was here, the only thing I think about is leaving. And finally, when I've decided to hand in my transfer letter requesting to be back home - there's a tiny twinge of hesitation. It's time to do so because I've always believed that when I am in a comfort zone, then I should move out and challenge new things again.

No more counting down,
Cause I'm still here at Temerloh - the small town where I've met some kind people, made some really good friends and the place I've grown to be comfortable with.

Till' then I will wait for my next destination while serving as much as I can here.

p/s: After such long time, the first post in this 366 days.

I am back at this place in less than a year. What happen to good people nowadays? Why do they leave us so early, so young... Just 8 months ago I was there sending Jeremy off (ironically a best friend of yours) and that was the last I met of you. As always, you gave a warm, tight hug the moment you saw me.

That was the way I remember of you. A person so generous and never stingy with your affectionate gestures. You said take care to me and told me that we will meet soon again. Not long after that, I heard that you are sick - badly sick. There was a need for a heart surgery and we made donations. Then you were at the ICU and I prayed for you a speedy recovery. We exchanged a few texts now and then knowing that you are getting better each day. We communicated through Instagram too and you received my virtual hug (I wish I was there in real to return you a long, warm hug like how you always did to me).

Then, the news of you discharged came and you were recovering well. That was when I took time for granted. I thought well, I could see you again later. There's no rush there and you should be resting more. And then, the bad news came right after I was back from Perhentian. Friends said you passed on in your sleep. Were you feeling comfortable at that time? Did you feel pain? I hope not.

If you really did passed on in your sleep, without struggle - I believe you're in a better place now. Without the need to go to the hospital so often, without consuming medicines everyday, without suffering life. I wish you all the best and if I do meet you again afterlife, I'll make sure I'm giving you a long, tight, warm hug cause' I owe you one. Safe journey, my dear friend.

It's the moment when memories sink in,
the moment when I start missing things and people from the past,
the moment when I wish I can travel back in time, to experience that same days, that same place, that same person, that same warmth, and to see the same smile.
.
.
.
.
It's also the same moment which vanished completely the next morning I wake up.

yes I am. Cause' so many had happened for the last 2 weeks. Every minute, every second of the days were occupied with different things to do. There were ups and downs, but was never too happy nor too sad. I knew I had to control my emotions, not to let my emotions control me. Wedding, funerals, family drama, friendships -- all these made me learnt that I only live once. Prolly' all other little problems can be overlooked sometimes, because life is not always easy.

cause' I've stopped counting the days... No longer thinking how is life without you will be, because there is so much more important things to do. Attended the second wake in a month's time reminds me once again, how fragile life is. If we do not know how to appreciate each other's presence then staying away like now is the best option. Just a random message occasionally is enough for both of us to know that we are doing fine.

Learnt that happiness is not inevitable. Treasuring and appreciating people around me, who are still with me is the right thing to do.

Couldn't put everything in words, into a post for everything that occurred for the past one year. September last year onwards, I never deleted any of your whatsapp messages, phone texts, facebook messages, emails, and every little memory that we had together. Couldn't count how many messages we have sent - prolly' few hundred thousands of them. These few nights I've been reading back our conversations, trying to figure out how did our friendship developed. How did we let ourselves relied on each other so much - until the extend of making wake-up calls everyday? How did we managed to talked every single day without fail? How did we adapted ourselves to having each other then, and adapt ourselves again without contact today?

Spent some time to browse my timeline today, and then realised alot can happen in a year's time. My favorite part of timeline is when I found a comment or like from you. My heart still skipped a beat when I saw those old comments, as I unfold another memory. Then I spent a little more time to look at those old photos and thought, "Wow.. amazing". We've known for years, and yet our paths didn't really crossed until last year this time. Last year I wasn't blogging about you, and yet this whole year's blog you made the most appearance. But, I know this is not gonna last cause' I'm losing things to blog bout' you anymore. I don't know you like how I knew you before.
如果有一天我們變陌生了,那麼我就重新認識你. Is that even possible?

Sometimes, it's really weird how relationships grow among people. People meet, become close, and until one day it's time for parting ways - although there was this moment where we made promises like "Don't worry, I'll always be here for you". Fact is, we can only stay there as long as we can, but not forever. I'm grateful that in my life, there are some people who just never leave.

just like that, without a word, without a trace.

Early morning I was awaken by loads of incoming messages. People wrote condolences, expressed how sorry and sad they were to hear the death news of yours. I was still in a blurred state, trying to reload earlier messages to find out who died. At that moment, I never thought it is someone I know, or at least someone I'm close with. People do tag and add me into thread messages randomly in FB, don't they? While I was tapping the reload earlier messages button, my phone rang.

"Mina, did you get those messages?"
"I've seen but I still don't know who died."
"It's him. Our class monitor during form 4 and 5."

My throat formed a lump. So, it is someone I know. It is someone I'm close to. Couldn't speak another word, so I stayed quiet.

"Hey Mina, are u still there? Do you still remember him?"
"Yea, of course I do. What happened?"
"Car accident."

I placed the phone down. Tears streamed down my face. It was a very weird feeling. We were close, but the last time I saw you was 6 years ago. Over these years, we did kept in contact - only occasional. I thought time drifted us apart, but why do I cried so hard?

I didn't attend the wake at the first night. After that, I thought it was a good choice to go on the second night with dear and a few other friends, cause' the mourning should be very much lesser compared to the first night. I was expecting the worst - seeing people crying over your death, friends reminiscing the past, topics of you will just flow. However, the whole place was calm, and people are chatting. I saw friends that I last saw them ever since secondary school. It was like a school reunion day.

I dare not go over and look at you at first, but with a few friends together - dear and gathered our courage to have a last look before we finally say goodbye. The moment I saw half of your face, I backed off. It was too pain to continue. I swallowed my tears and walked out after I said RIP.

**Flashbacks**

"Happy Belated Birthday Dolphine!" - The birthday card you wrote with your messy handwriting. You even wrote a stupid birthday lyrics, which made me angry and laughed and the same time.

You: Hey yo! Long time no see!
Me: Hey you! Ages didn't see you...
You: No! You too arrogant to reply me.
Me: Since when I don't reply you?!
You: No. That's why now got bf different already.
.
.
.
.
You: Yo!
Me: Where are you now?
You: Pahang
Me: No need work ah?
You: In my car la
Me: Ur car??
You: Ya la.. Sleeping
Me: Huh.. And you are here now chatting with me? Not sleepy?
.
.
.
.
You: U sound like u're not in KL
Me: Haha.. There where did I sound like?
You: If I say u sound like an alien how?
Me: U la alien!
.
.
.
.
You: Hey are u married now?
Me: Huh.. Why the question??

Our conversation were always like that. Weird and abrupt cause' you always disappeared halfway. And now again, you left abruptly but this time you are not coming back. I know I won't receive anymore sudden messages from you, won't be hearing you calling me dolphine nor you will response to my sharks calling. But, I know you are at a better place now so I'm ready to let you go. The memories will stay, and that's enough. So long, my dear friend.

I knew this day will come, when we were getting really close. The day when we would finally sit and talk about us. I'm more ready to talk, and listen to you after I drink. I kinda expected what you will  tell me, and yet I need the alcohol effect to give me more courage. You told me I was not sober, I said "I'm super sober". Because if I don't, I won't be able to remember every single word you said on that night.

Our conversation that night, our confessions to each other made my heart sank bit by bit. Yes, i think I'm losing you. You're losing me. Maybe not for long, but at this short term where you and I needed a space to breathe. You never wanna lose me you said. I never wanna see you leave I said. But, how honest were we that night? Honesty, you told me is an important thing. You told me about your family, about trust. You once told me before that you have shown me your true feelings so much more compared to what you have shown others, because you have trust issues. And then, now I wonder will you still be able to show me your feelings honestly after our conversation that night?

All our words were still in the back of my mind. I can accept every word from you, I can understand what you've been thinking. I can rationalise your actions. I can be what you want me to be. Until the next morning came, you've showed me how little you can do for me, when I can do so much for you.

"Dear... I am really sorry if I made u angry or upset... I tend to do that a lot.."
"I really like u also... But I know one day, sooner or later I'll make u unhappy. I'm afraid of losing u. I'm scared of losing u by making mistakes. I always make mistakes"

The reason why I can still uphold my trust in you, is because of the messages you've sent me before. The way you said it, so sincere that I want to believe in you. But again, not because you've warned me before that you will make me unhappy one day means I deserve to be hurt. So, keep your promise that you will forever be afraid to lose me.

I thought everything is going fine for us, and yet I was wrong. Again. I didn't know that it is so difficult to keep a comfortable distance between us. Too far, I don't feel you. Too close, I'm afraid we will cross the line. I've always been a simple person, with simple request. All I want is to keep a balance between us, and yet this fails terribly.

One stupid thing I did: Reading 191 pages of conversation is like reading a story of us - which is coming to an end. Tears suddenly blurred my vision... I hate the emo me.

The dictionary says it's something coming without warning, unforeseen, surprisingly. I guess I've never really encounter something unexpected until tonight. I was thinking of all possibilities, but never thought that the problem is such a huge one. It is something that you will remember for life, even if it's solved. It is something which will leave a scar even the wound healed. How could that have happened? The only thing I could afford after knowing the truth was opening my mouth with no words out from me. This is not something I can comment or give opinions on. This is beyond my expectation, beyond my help. All I can say is, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sorry that I couldn't provide help even I am begged to.

The heart sank for a moment, and the brain refused to process.

I don't feel myself lately. I am happy at this second, then depressed at the next. I am constantly in need of other people and things to distract my attention. I am very much toned-down these days, not as excited as before. I don't jump in joy screaming even if I'm really, like really happy. Smile is the only one thing I can afford.

I was not aware of how emotional I am these days until when I was driving back home alone at late night. It was already midnight, that night when I was driving on an unfamiliar road, praying that I would not lost my way. But, it seems the more I fear, the chances of getting lost are higher. And finally, a wrong turning puts me into a place which I've never been before. I couldn't recognize the road ahead of me. I continued driving at a slow speed, searching for signboards. Then, I felt a lump in my throat and I know tears are gonna flow if I don't stop it in time. I stopped the tears from flowing and continued driving for another 30 minutes before I finally recognize my way home.

Until now, I still couldn't figure out why I had that sudden urge of tears welling in my eyes. I always get lost while driving (and never felt a thing) but why this time am I so fragile. I am usually not a timid person, am I?

Ever since the fall, my phone had never stopped ringing - from text messages to whatsapp to line to fb messages, and telephone calls. I know people around me are worrying about me, but I just do not have the mood to entertain any of them. If there is a choice, I would want to swallow myself into darkness and have zero contact with the outside world. The thought of graduating a year later is such a pain. The fact that I am to leave my my battle mates because I am too slow to catch up is even more pain. People keep on telling me not to give up and to stand up again after this fall. Me myself know that this is the right thing to do too, but doing is always harder than to say.

The reluctance to pick up my life led me to a complete different person. I do not care about others feelings, I do what I want. I can't listen to the words of concerns from other people, I do no bother to reply messages and phone calls. I was almost never home, as I was out everyday, everynight. I tired myself out every single night as I only came home in the morning and yet I couldn't put myself to sleep. My parents were worried for me, I know but I just couldn't help it. Friends cannot leave me alone as I'm such a mess. I do things I usually don't as if i am only living for today, like tomorrow never comes.

I see the worries in my parents' eyes. I see the concern from my siblings and friends. I know, even if I don't live for myself, I have to live for them. And so, I will try my very best to pick myself up, to pick up the bits and pieces of my shattered life and I will be my normal self again. I just need a little bit more time...

When you told me to just listen, and do not say anything... I thought it would be hard to as I always have things to say about what you want to tell me. However, this time I am speechless, and felt totally helpless. I do not know what I can do to help you feel better, or maybe at least temporarily forget the pain.

The closest moment I am to a life and death situation, was when my grandfather passed away. I couldn't remember anything else other than his leaving during that year. I swear, that was the hardest 5 days for me ever. The moment I saw grandfather being wheeled out from the surgery room, with an expressionless face, I knew he's gone. My family, my relatives were all crying, but I alone stood there like I was being froze - couldn't speak a word, and tears wouldn't flow. I couldn't believe that he just left like that. I hoped it was all a dream - a very bad dream, and I would be awaken soon. We all went back to grandpa' house, the adults were busy preparing for the funeral - packing grandpa's favourite belongings so that those things can go with him. Then, realisation finally hits. I knew grandpa's gone forever. Midnight came, and I started weeping silently. I cried so hard that even breathing became difficult...

So, when you told me someone passed away - although I do not know that person, but from your messages I could feel your sadness. Your voice over the phone is a pain itself... You said it's really sad that she didn't experience much in life, and in my mind I thought "Yea.. and who am I to complain about so many little things in life...". Suddenly our conversation about my broken snow globe, about someone else poking into my life, about my quarrel with sister.. all seems so little, compared to life.

From now onwards, I shall learn how to appreciate life, treasure people around me, and count my blessings from time to time. Like how you know me, I am a crybaby (and you don't like it everytime I cry) - but this time I promise I'll try my best to keep my tears until its shed for something worthwhile. =)

The unsaid: Last night, your determination to stay back for me no matter how much I asked you to leave made me smile. Tonight, you had no choice but to leave, I still smiled because you told me you're gonna miss me while you're gone (although there's this tiny little feeling telling me, I'm losing you...)

I feel like I've back to my secondary school life - even for the briefest moment. Today's activities are just like the exact ones I did during that time. I couldn't remember how long ago was my last touch of basketball. I couldn't remember if I really ever knew how to play it. Standing at the basketball court holding the ball somehow time-traveled me back to those care-free days, where my girlfriends and I spent most time playing and fooling around after school hours. The memories of playing basketball together, going to the library, buying fruits at the school canteen... All came back like it was just yesterday.

But, in reality.. Many years had gone by. People around me had changed. I had lost contact with many of the friends in my past. I, myself had changed too. More grown up I would say, more matured. Losing contact with my friends is one thing i can never get used to, no matter how many times it happened. I understand that when we reach some point of life, people around us move on and we part ways. So, to my friends I'm having now... I'll make the best of it before we move on to the next stage of life where we will lose each other.

To my dear, we'll somehow find a way to realise our goal someday, the one we've been dreaming for for years...
To my close friends, we'll create as many happy memories as we can.
To Step G., we'll try hard to reunite although we are parting ways next year.
And lastly, to my BFF, we'll make some changes so that one day when I cross ur mind u will find that I've made a difference in your life... Like how u did to mine.
